TROLLS CONSIDERS FORMATION OPTION
Paul Trollope says Rovers may turn to the 4-1-3-2 formation again following its trial against Crewe Alexandra last weekend.
The first team coach played Stuart Campbell in a holding role against the Railwaymen, and it helped bring about the club's first clean sheet of the 2008/09 season.
On the downside it also saw Rovers fail to find the back of the net, but Paul feels that overall it offers plenty of plus points.
"It's something we'll possibly use again," Paul told bristolrovers.co.uk, "Aspects of it worked well, although there were a few areas we'll need to work on if we use it again.
"We've given teams too much room outside our box and in front of the back four this season, and we needed to plug that hole. Stuart (Campbell) was given that responsibility, and he performed it well.
"The onus is on the full-backs to push forward and give us width when we play in that formation, and at times we did that with some degree of success. Craig Disley and David Pipe both got forward down the right, and Jeff Hughes was able to push further forward from the left.
"When you go on a losing run like we were on recently, nobody likes it and nobody enjoys it. But you can't suddenly expect to start winning by three or four goals every week, you've got to build a base and turn the corner slowly.
"We feel we've done that now, and now we need to get our passing and movement going again and to get rid of the anxiety we've shown. When we do that, the confidence will soon come back into our play and we'll be more like the side we're capable of being.
"We feel we've made some important steps in the last couple of matches. The mentality amongst the group of players we have here is strong, we've stopped the rot, and now we need to get back to winning ways."
