ELLIOTT WANTS FIRST CLEAN SHEET
Steve Elliott is hoping Rovers can keep their first clean sheet of 2008/09 at the Fitness First Stadium this evening.
The Pirates take on AFC Bournemouth in the first round of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy having had a mixed start to the season in terms of results.
In the league, Rovers have won one, lost one and drawn two, while in the Carling Cup, theres was a narrow defeat at Watford.
"We haven't managed to keep a clean sheet yet, but we're working on that," Steve told bristolrovers.co.uk, "Defensively, performances haven't been too bad, but we'd like to show that with a clean sheet sooner rather than later.
"The strikers have started the season very well, and the goals have been firing in. They've hit the ground running, and overall it's not been a bad start to the season at all.
"Tonight is a game we're looking to win, they've been a bogey team for us recently, but we're confident we can get a result. We know what the competition is all about, and the rewards that reaching the final can produce.
"The early rounds might not seem so important, but at the end of the day there's a place at Wembley up for grabs and every player in the game wants to play there.
"As a League One club we'll probably be expected to win this evening, and we'll be striving to do that and to go as far as we can in the competition.
"You don't get the chance to win too many trophies in League One or League Two, but the Johnstone's Paint Trophy offers us a real chance to do that.
"Two years ago, the Millennium Stadium was a great day out for us all. Those memories will stay with us forever in our careers, and if we can get another day out like that at Wembley then it will be fantastic."
