Wayne Andrews could yet become a Bristol Rovers player this season, as he continues his recovery from a knee injury sustained against Yeovil Town last season.

The former Coventry City striker damaged ligaments on his debut for the club at Huish Park, and has been out of action ever since.

The player is currently on a rehabilitation course at Lilleshall, and according to first team coach Paul Trollope, is three or four weeks away from a possible return to competitive football.

"Wayne has been at Lilleshall, but he's coming down to see us on Thursday," Paul told bristolrovers.co.uk, "I believe he is about four weeks away, and he will spend some time with Phil Kite this later this week as he continues his rehabilitation.

"He is still very much in our thoughts, and when he is fully fit we'll see how he shapes up, and maybe there'll be something at the end of it for him. He knows the situation, we're not leading him down any false paths, and we're still keeping him very much in mind.

"He is welcome to do his rehabilitation with us, and then we'll assess where he is after that. We're pleased he's doing his rehabilitation with us, and he'll go back to Lilleshall next week and hopefully step up his recovery to the next level.

"When we see him next we hope he'll be able to return to training with us, but it all depends on how the rehabilitation goes."

Because Andrews is currently not under contract at any club, issues regarding transfer window deadlines do not apply.

"It's a difficult situation for Wayne, he's not on any money at the moment and that's not ideal for his family," said Paul, "We're trying to take care of him and to help him, because he's someone we'd like in the building.

"But time will tell on his injury and our situation, and things will only really become clear in three or four weeks when we're able to see him in action and make an assessment."
