WE DESERVED EXTRA TIME - TROLLS
Paul Trollope says Rovers deserved to have taken last night's Carling Cup tie against Watford to extra time.
The Pirates were knocked out of the competition by a late Will Hoskins strike at Vicarage Road, having held the Championship side to 0-0 for 88 minutes.
The result ends any hope of a plum draw in the second round of the competition, and Paul was understandably disappointed after the final whistle.
"I thought we were right in the game throughout," Paul told bristolrovers.co.uk, "We produced some good attacking play, although in the second half I don't think we passed the ball as well, certainly not well enough to create enough chances against a team like Watford.
"I thought after the break we gave the ball back to them too often for my liking, which meant we had a lot of extra defending to do.
I thought to be fair we looked resolute at the back, but we'll have to have a look at the DVD for their goal to see how they carved us open.
"It was disappointing to concede so late in the game, because I felt we deserved extra time. The players gave a big effort and showed good commitment, and we knew our work ethic would have to be high.
"Watford had a lot of youth and pace in their side, which meant they stretched us at times. It's tough coming to places like Watford, and at times we had to defend very well for periods.
"Overall it was a decent performance, but we know we are better than that. There were a lot of pleasing aspects, but football is about winning, and we haven't done that.
"We turn our attention to Brighton now, it's not the easiest place to go, but we'll look forward to it.
"We need to put this result behind us, there are some things for us to work on this week, and make sure come Saturday we produce a performance good enough to win the game."
