BEN IN HUNT FOR FIRST TEAM CHANCE
Ben Hunt is hoping his performance against ADO Den Haag yesterday afternoon will give his first team chances a boost for the season ahead.
The former West Ham United scholar scored the second of Rovers' two goals in the 3-2 loss, and looked impressive throughout his time on the pitch.
Ben knows that realistically he faces some very stiff competition from other strikers at the club, but he's confident in his own ability if given the chance to show it.
"It was a good experience for me yesterday," Ben told bristolrovers.co.uk, "When Ryan Green got injured, Trolls told be to warm up and to get myself focused. I knew it was a big chance and a real opportunity to show what I could do.
"When I saw the goalkeeper come running out for my goal, I just decided to tap it around him, and to see it go in was a good feeling. I'd missed a couple of chances before that, but I had to put that out of my mind and I was relieved when that one went in for my first goal."
Ben hopes to feature more and more as 2008/09 unfolds, and he's hoping to be a familiar name amongst the matchday 16 come the turn of the year.
"My aim is by Christmas to have featured regularly in the team, hopefully to have scored some goals, and then to gradually play more and more," he said, "And as long as I do well when I do get opportunities then hopefully it will keep me in the frame.
"There are quite a few above me in the pecking order right now, three or four other players, so I'm going to have to work very hard in training to get a chance, but I'm looking forward to the challenge."
