In the wake of his side's 2-0 defeat at Llanelli tonight, First Team Coach Paul Trollope made it clear that he expects more from the youngsters in his squad.

"It was a disappointing night for us," Paul told bristolrovers.co.uk " We played on a very good pitch, after heavy rain which made the durface zippy. It was a game we were very much looking forward to, but the bottom line is that they were too strong for us.

"The Llanelli side had a lot of experience and contained many former Welsh internationals and a lot of players who have had long careers in the Football League. Apart from Craig Hinton, our team was quite young and inexperienced and the challenge proved to be too much for them tonight."

There were few positives to be taken from a performance that left his side well beaten.

"There were some individual positives, from Ben Hunt and Liam Harwood, while Craig Hinton gave a good captain's performance. However, there were too many who found the going a little bit tough.

"We lacked the composure to pass the ball, and keep possession on a regular basis, which Llanelli had in abundance, and they deserved to win the game.

"It's still pre season, and this was only the second game some of the boys have played, but we're disappointed, and we have to learn from it.

"Llanelli are a League of Wales side who have had adventures in Europe recently, but we are under no illusions that in the English League set up they would probably be a good Conference side.

"We are a League One side, and we expect more, and If they want to progress to the first team group, we need to see a bit more.

"It was a tough ask tonight, given the experienced players in the Llanelli side, but we expected a bit more from our lads.

In spite of being second best for most of the game, the players worked hard and never gave up.

"The spirit and the attitude of the players was never in question and the composure showed by Llanelli, that we lacked, does come from experience at times. That said, they also had  quite a few young players out as well and them two wide players in the first half tore us to pieces and we had nothing to counter that.

"We had some good bits and pieces, but it's a case of learning from it as a group of players, and they have to learn quickly. A lot of those in the dressing room tonight will go out on loan and, hopefully, gain from that experience but to be part of the future of this football club, there must be an improvement."
