Geoff Dunford says that the six new signings unveiled at the Memorial Stadium yesterday will show people that the club "means business".

Jeff Hughes and Darryl Duffy, along with four up-and-coming youngsters, were introduced to the media at an afternoon press conference.

Hughes and Duffy each cost over £100,000 to secure, but Geoff believes it will be money well spent come the end of the 2008/09 campaign.

"It's always exciting when new players arrive," Geoff told bristolrovers.co.uk, "Paul and Lennie have looked at the problems we had last season, and these two will help address some of those.

"The news on the new stadium was a disappointment for us all in the summer, but it's a delay rather than anything else, and I think since the announcement people can now see in the state of the country as a whole that money is very tight and we were one of the first casualties of the situation.

"But we're looking at the season ahead now, and the directors are putting their hands in their pockets to hopefully take the club further forward. That's what we're here for, we want to achieve Championship football, and these new signings are a step in that direction.

"It's a big investment for the club, but we made a big investment in Rickie Lambert and that paid off, and these two are very similar in that respect.

"The management team are here to bring success to the club and to the supporters, and we will support them as much as we can.

"Hopefully people will see that we mean business, and that fans respond to these new signings by buying season tickets and by getting behind the team from the first game of the season.

"We had expected to be playing at Cheltenham, but it's a case of hanging on for the time being, and for the next 12 months giving it our best shot of getting up to the Championship."
