DUFFY'S DELIGHT AT ROVERS SWITCH
Darryl Duffy finally completed his move from Swansea City to Bristol Rovers today.
The 25-year-old front man has been linked with a move to the Memorial Stadium for several weeks, but only put pen to paper this afternoon.
"It's taken a while for the contract details to be sorted, bur now I can sign and carry on with my career," Darryl told bristolrovers.co.uk ahead of his first training session with his new team-mates.
"I think coming here is something I had to do to stand a chance of playing first team football on a regular basis. Hopefully, if I do well enough, I can do that here.
"I was at Swansea for 14 months, so I guess you could say that it was short and sweet.
"The biggest factor in my move was that I just wanted to play football. I'm not interested in sitting in the stands, and with the size of the squad at Swansea, there were as many as 12 or 13 players sitting up in the stand on a matchday.
"Hopefully I can establish myself here and do well."
Darryl played against Rovers twice last season, starting one game while come on as a substitute in the other.
"I played against Rovers last season," he said, "I was on the bench for the game at the Liberty Stadium and went on at half-time, so I was able to watch the opening 45 minutes when I thought that Rovers were the better side and deserved their 2-0 lead.
"I started the game at the Memorial Stadium, so I've had good experience of playing against them and know what they are all about."
Darryl already knows the likes of Danny Coles and Steve Phillips, and is looking forward to settling in over the pre-season period.
"I'm good mates with Danny Coles and I know Steve Phillips as well, which will be a big help in settling in here," he said, "In fact Colesy is a great lad and one of my best mates in football.
"I've had a look at the fixtures for pre-season and there are some good games planned, and the tour to Sweden will also be a good experience."
