WE'VE LET THEM DOWN - PHILLIPS
Steve Phillips says that the players have let down Lennie Lawrence and Paul Trollope over recent weeks.
The Rovers goalkeeper believes poor results could and should have been avoided towards the end of the campaign, and admits the team will go into the summer on a disappointing note.
Just one point from three home games last week summed up a frustrating few months for the Pirates, and Steve knows that things will need to change ahead of 2008/09.
"On Saturday against Brighton we started to turn the screw just before they scored," Steve told bristolrovers.co.uk, "We created numerous chances, but we didn't manage to take any.
"Over the last 13 or 14 games we haven't been good enough, and I think we've let Lennie and Trolls down.
"We had a magnificent spell in the middle of the season and I think that's basically kept us up. We may have taken staying up and the quarter-finals of the FA Cup back in August, but it's not a nice way to finish the season.
"The players are going to go away for the summer, many of us having played 120 games in two seasons. I think that tiredness is starting to show in some of us, and we could use the rest.
"The players in the dressing room got us promoted, but overall we need to be better. This club wouldn't be where it is if it wasn't for some of the players we've got here, but that doesn't change the fact that we've only won one game in 13.
"The reaction of the crowd after the game on Saturday was as though we just won promotion, and that's what I love about this club. The fans have been fantastic for us, and next year we need to make sure we give them something more to cheer about."
