Steve Phillips says the weekend injury to Wayne Andrews is a massive blow for the club.

The striker was injured in the scoreless draw with Yeovil Town on Saturday and will now be out of action for the rest of the season.

Andrews had only joined Rovers 48 hours earlier in a transfer deadline day move from Coventry City, but now looks set to spend the next couple of months in the treatment room at the Ricoh Arena.

"It's a massive blow for us," Steve told bristolrovers.co.uk, "It's taken us ages to get a striker in, and with the quality he's definitely got it's a massive blow that he's going to be out for the rest of the season.

"He's got pace and a good touch and we saw glimpses of that in the 20 minutes or so that he was on for us. He's a nice bloke as well as being a good footballer, and we hope he has a speedy and complete recovery.

"We wish him well and maybe if he decides he wants to join us we'll see him again in pre-season."

The talk of a late dash to the play-off places has quietened over recent weeks, and Steve says it's always been the case that getting mathematically safe should be everyone's number one priority.

"I think people were getting a bit ahead of themselves when we had a few good results a couple of months ago," he said, "There are so many good teams in this division, it's difficult to put a run together.

"First of all we need to make sure we are mathematically safe, and then we need to try and finish on a high. You can never say never, but for our first season in this division our priority has to be staying up and then once we've ensured that we can begin to look forward."
