Rickie Lambert is hoping he can still reach his summer target of 20 goals for the season.

The striker netted yesterday for the first time since the FA Cup win over Southampton, taking his tally for 2007/08 to 16.

"I've been a bit frustrated with myself lately for not scoring in a while, so it was good to get a goal yesterday," Rickie told bristolrovers.co.uk, "I managed to get through a couple of challenges, and then the ball just dropped perfectly for me.

"That's 16 for the season now, and I'm hoping I can have one more burst of goals before the season ends to take me to 20. I've tended to score goals in clutches throughout my career, so hopefully the one yesterday will be the start of a little run for me.

"I set myself a target of 20 before the season and it would be nice to reach it, but I'm not bothered if I don't as long as we're picking up points and winning, that's all that matters."

Rickie played the unusual role of lone striker yesterday, a position he said he enjoyed despite its tiring impact.

"I was knackered, but the lads hung in there," he said, "The first half the formation worked really well and I thought the lads played brilliantly. We could have been more than two goals ahead at half-time and we were confident we could win the game.

"It was a bit of a surprise that we played the way we did, it was a more defensive approach and we wanted to hit them on the counter. It meant a lot of extra work playing up front on my own, but I enjoyed it and thought it worked really well.

"I'm normally the player that plays a bit deeper, but for the last couple of games I've been playing higher up. It's a bit different to what I've been used to, but it's something I'm happy to do."
