TROLLS FRUSTRATED AFTER LOSS
Paul Trollope felt Rovers were more than a match for Swansea City in Tuesday night's League One clash at the Memorial Stadium.
The first team coach said his team were "well in the game" until the Swans opened the scoring with just under 20 minutes of the contest left to play, only for two late goals to secure three away points.
"It was a disappointing result, but I thought for the first 65 minutes we were well in the game," Paul told bristolrovers.co.uk, "It was a decent match played at a good tempo, and we thought at half-time we were capable of going on to win it.
"But we then we left ourselves a bit open which led to the free-kick out wide that their first goal came from. The marking for the free-kick was poor, and that's something we'll need to have a look at because he was the tallest person on the pitch and he wasn't picked up.
"Their second goal came from a penalty after Byron Anthony won the ball with a challenge from the side, and that came after Rickie Lambert was bundled over in the box at the other end for a clear penalty to us. They were two key decisions, and when you're playing against the league leaders, you need them to go the correct way.
"They didn't go for us, and had we been given the penalty for the blatant push on Rickie, then it would have given us the lead and something to work on.
"All that said, we need to be better, we know that and we understand that. There wasn't enough from us in the final third, I'm repeating myself from previous matches, but we do need to be better in that respect.
"We can take a lot of heart and positives from the performance, but we know we need to be right in games for every moment. We switched off for one moment that led to the free-kick and we were a goal down, and going a goal down against the league leaders is always going to be difficult to come back from."
Following the match there was an incident in the tunnel that led to the arrest of one man.
"I saw the end of it, and I saw Danny [Coles]'s lip which was very bloody and swollen," he said, "There were a lot of witnesses from our side and stewards that saw it, and the details will come out.
"It wasn't a nice incident and there's no place for that in football, and the person in question needs to be dealt with."
