ANTHONY HOPES HE'S DONE ENOUGH

Posted on: Fri 14 Mar 2008

Byron Anthony hopes to remain a part of a Rovers team that mounts a serious end-of-season assault on the play-offs.

The defender was recalled to the starting 11 for Wednesday's 1-1 home draw against Northampton Town, and played his first game alongside Danny Coles.

The Welshman produced an encouraging display throughout the 90 minutes, and Paul Trollope will have a difficult choice to make when it comes to this weekend's team selection.

"I didn't feel too bad on Wednesday, although I was puffing a bit in the last 10 minutes," Byron told bristolrovers.co.uk, "I haven't played a first team game in four or five months, so I guess that was only to be expected.

"I'd played in a couple of reserve games before Wednesday, but that's totally different. Reserve games are more just to get you running around and to get your match fitness up, first team games you have three points to play for and a place to fight to keep.

"Hopefully I will have done enough to keep my place on Saturday, but we'll have to see."

Rovers visit Cheltenham Town tomorrow afternoon, and Byron knows a a victory at Whaddon Road could prove very important.

"Look what happened to us last season after the Millennium Stadium," he said, "We were 17th in the table with games in hand, and after losing away at Boston we grinding out results here there and everywhere.

"We've just got to get on with it, we need to pick up some points and we need to try and use what happened on Sunday as a springboard for the remaining league games.

"We've got matches in hand and if we can take three points from those matches then it puts us right back up there. We know we have it in us, we did it last year, and now we have to go out there and try to do that again."
