Danny Coles says the manner of West Bromwich Albion's third goal yesterday evening still leaves him feeling confused.

The Baggies made the game safe when an offside Ishmael Miller capitalised on a long punt forward and a backward header from the defender, before sliding home beneath Steve Phillips.

The goal attracted much analysis after the event, as players, fans and pundits alike struggled to get their heads around why it should be allowed to stand.

"I'm still a bit confused about the third goal," Danny told bristolrovers.co.uk, "I knew their player was there and I could have just left it for Steve Phillips.

"I didn't actually try to head it back to him, I just tried to get something on it. Their striker was there in an offside position the whole time and I can't see how he wasn't offside to be honest."

The final scoreline was a harsh reflection on what had been at times a very even contest.

"We're very disappointed to be honest, especially about the scoreline," said Danny, "When there was only a one-goal deficit I always thought we were in it.

"If we could have made it 2-2 before half-time then I think we could have gone on to win it, but the difference between them and us was that they took their chances and scored goals.

"They finished superbly when they had the opportunities and that is the difference between a top Championship team and a good League One team."

Rovers must now focus fully on their remaining league fixtures, beginning with a home match against Northampton Town on Wednesday.

"We can take positives from the West Brom game and go into Northampton on Wednesday full of confidence," said Danny, "There were a lot of areas in the game we did well in, and if we could have finished then it might have been a different story.

"The next six games are crucial to us as players, and we've got two very big games this week that we feel we're more than capable of winning.

"The table at the minute can be a little deflating to look at, but when you see how many games we've got in hand we know there's an opportunity there.

"We've got the players without a shadow of a doubt and the ability within the squad to get into the top half, and once we get there we'll see what happens."
