LAMBERT WOULD LOVE LIVERPOOL

Posted on: Sun 27 Jan 2008

Rickie Lambert is looking forward with great anticipation to tomorrow afternoon's FA Cup fifth round draw.

Rovers go into the hat along with six Premier League sides, eight Championship sides and one fellow League One side.

The club have been drawn away from home in three of the four rounds so far this season, and Rickie admits he'd happily take that again - if it meant a trip to Anfield for he and his team-mates.

"Obviously Liverpool would be my preference, I think everyone connected with the club and especially the fans would love it," Rickie told bristolrovers.co.uk.

"But if we don't get Liverpool or one of the big ones, then someone lower down who we have a chance of beating. It shows that if Havant can go to Anfield and score twice then every team has a chance, and I know that everyone here wants to stay in the competition for as long as we can."

Yesterday's win over Barnet saw Rickie score the only goal of the game, although the striker knows it could have been very different had Steve Phillips not saved a very early penalty.

"It was a great save from Steve, and it could have been a very different story had that one gone in," he said, "I was getting a bit frustrated in the first half because things weren't coming off for me or the team, but it came good after the break.

"I was just concentrating on getting myself in the six-yard box when Pipey had the ball out wide, and thankfully he found me. I just tried to get my head on the ball and it was brilliant to see the ball go in."

Rovers are potentially just 90 minutes away from a place in the quarter-finals, and Rickie admits it's difficult to comprehend at times.

"It's mad when you think of it," he said, "This is the biggest cup competition in the world, and to get to the last 16 and to be within one game of making the quarter-finals is unbelievable.

"The lads are buzzing and we do hope the draw can give us a great day out. We had a good run last year, but we've gone one better now and hopefully we can keep it going for a little longer."
