IT WOULD HAVE BEEN A FARCE - TROLLS

Posted on: Tue 20 Nov 2007

Paul Trollope says the decision to postpone this evening's FA Cup tie was the right one.

The first team coach believes the contest could have turned into a farce had the match been allowed to go ahead as planned.

Rovers and Leyton Orient were due to do battle at 7:45pm, but with the possibility of 90 minutes of football, extra time and even penalties, Paul says referee Gavin Ward made the right call.

"It was the right decision, and both managers were agreed about that," Paul told bristolrovers.co.uk.

"We're disappointed because we prepared right and we were looking forward to the game, but if the game had gone ahead it would have deteriorated into a farce, and that's what we wouldn't want to happen.

"The pitch looked decent enough on the surface, it survived the football and rugby at the weekend, but it was waterlogged and it wouldn't have been right to play the game.

"We don't want the pitch to get ruined from one game, and although that wasn't a factor in the decision, it is a fact and something we're wary of.

"Our thoughts now turn to Swindon on Saturday, and to getting a result in that game. We've had a change to our week and the schedule has now altered, so we'll be in training every day ahead of that match.

"It's a great game for us, a local derby just down the road, and away from home we've produced some good performances so far. We want to continue that this weekend, and work begins in the morning on making sure we're ready to do that."
