Joe Jacobson came through a full 90 minutes for Wales Under 21s against Sweden yesterday evening.

The Rovers midfielder was called up for the principality's second age tier national team at the end of last week, and has spent the last few days with Bryan Flynn and his new team-mates.

Wales won the game 4-3, overturning a 3-1 half-time deficit.

"We had some really big performances from the players and it as a thoroughly deserved victory," said Flynn after the final whistle, "We had two debatable penalties given against us, but the players showed a lot of composure, character and grit to win the game.

"Five of our boys were missing after being called up to the senior squad, and we ended the game with a 16-year-old, two 17-year-olds and three 18-year-olds playing.

"If they keep the standard they showed tonight, then the future is looking bright."

Malmo striker Ola Toivonen scored a hat-trick before the interval for the home side with David Cotterill netting for Wales.

The visitors went on to complete an impressive comeback in the second half, with strikes from David Edwards, substitute Sam Vokes and Joe Allen.
