ROVERS SUFFER DOWNES INJURY BLOW

Posted on: Thu 02 Feb 2012

Rovers suffered a massive injury blow today with the news that Aaron Downes could be out for the rest of the season.

The defender picked up a knee injury against Bradford on Saturday, which is expected to keep him out for a lengthy spell.

The Australian, who was voted the fan's Player of the Month for January, had just extended his loan spell with Rovers until the end of the season.

Manager Mark McGhee said: "He seems to have damaged the cartiladge and he seems to have possibly damamged some ligament as well.

"We are still waiting for the definitive diagnosis, but it does not look good.

"He has been fantastic in the two games I have seen him, and it looks like he could be out for a significant length of time.

"Worst case scenario is that he wont play again this season. We are really gutted about that, for ourselves, but also for the boy himself.

"He has impressed me already, so we will take stock between now and the end of the season, but a fit Aaron Downes will do for me.

"It is not great that we have now lost three of the back four that started that day and kept a clean sheet."

Aaron joins Gary Sawyer, Danny Woodards and Mustapha Carayol on the injury list, with Chris  Zebroski suspended for two matches.

One boost for Rovers is that Matt Harrold has returned to training and is expected to feature in some capacity against Aldershot on Saturday.
