ABOUT THE COMMUNITY DEPARTMENT
Bristol Rovers Football in the Community was established in 1991, and since then has sought to promote strong links between the professional football club and the communities of Bristol, South Gloucestershire and surrounding areas.
The Community Department is an important part of Bristol Rovers Football Club. It is based at the Memorial Stadium, but it is financially independent and is a not-for-profit organisation.
In 2001 the Community Department achieved charity status (registered charity number 1088148). As a registered charity the Department relies upon sponsorship and funding initiatives in order to meet its aims and objectives and sustaining the work we do in the community.
The Community Department aims to use the power of football to make a difference by encouraging and motivating children to participate in physical activity; as well as improving their attainment and attitude at school, and to lead a healthier lifestyle.
Football also has the ability to help raise confidence and build self-esteem. This will then help develop personal skills with making new friends, and in turn making children aware of the importance of respecting other individuals.
The aim is for all these factors to hopefully teach children life skills and help develop them into better individuals who can grow into becoming valuable members of their community.
Our four key areas of work are:
> Health
> Education
> Sports Participation
> Social Inclusion
