UNDER-18's TASTE DEFEAT FOR FIRST TIME IN A YEAR

13 October 2015

Bristol Rovers 0-1 Exeter City

Saturday 10th October

Our U-18’s year long unbeaten league record came to an end last Saturday when they were beaten 1-0 by Exeter City.

The only goal of the game arrived some ten minutes from time; “It came after one of our own attacks,” said Alan Walsh, “Olly Mehew, whose pace caused Exeter a number of problems throughout the 90 minutes, picked the ball up out on the left and made a diagonal run across the pitch. He got to within 20 yards of goal before firing a shot across the keeper which hit the post.

“The rebound fell the wrong side of Blake Davies, and reached an Exeter defender who cleared to the halfway line. We weren’t really switched on at the time and were caught on the break as another Exeter player escaped his marker and crossed into the box. We failed to clear our lines and Exeter scored from a close range effort.

“It was extremely disappointing to concede at that point because, up until then, I felt that we were dictating the game. Exeter’s most dangerous opportunities came from set pieces, whereas we played well and created a number of chances from open play but were unable to find the back of the net.

“Our best chance had arrived when Olly broke through and found himself in a one on one situation with the Exeter goalkeeper, but unfortunately his shot hit the post.

“Whilst it was disappointing to lose our unbeaten record in the league, we did quite well and the scoreline doesn’t really reflect the way we played.”
