UNDER-18'S DRAW WITH EXETER CITY

27 November 2015

Exeter City 1-1 Bristol Rovers

Having seen their league game against Oxford United postponed the previous Saturday, our U-18 side played out a 1-1 draw against their Exeter City counterparts last Tuesday.

Youth Team manager Alan Walsh said; “We had originally planned to play a friendly match against The Army, but unfortunately they were unable to put a side out so we quickly arranged a match against
Exeter and played on Yeovil Town’s 3G pitch and we were very grateful to Exeter playing us at such short notice.

“The game was a good workout for us and gave us an opportunity to give some game time to quite a few of our players who have spent a lot of time on the bench recently.

“It was a competitive match and in the first half both sides played some very good football. In terms of possession Exeter probably shaded it, but really didn’t work our goalkeeper as much as we worked theirs.

“It was goalless at the break but we conceded shortly after the restart when poor defending from a corner allowed an Exeter player a free header and he comfortably beat Charlie Phillips to put his side ahead.

“We got back into the game after that and created a number of chances before scoring an equaliser 20 minutes from time thanks to a cracking effort from Connor Jones whose wind assisted 35 yard effort flew into the top corner of the net

“The game was quite an end to end affair following that, but as we were playing against a strong wind it was disappointing that we were unable to pen Exeter back in their own half. The fact that we remained on level terms was fortuitous, rather than down to good defending on our part.”
