FA WARNING

23 September 2014

Club warned over actions at Braintree

As many of you are aware, we were reported to the Football Association (FA) after a skirmish behind the goal at Braintree last month, following the award of a penalty to the home side.

One so called Rovers supporter even managed to strike a Braintree player from his place on the terrace while one or two others rushed the perimeter barrier.

Once again, therefore, a small minority of so called supporters spoilt things for the majority of those who simply travelled to Braintree to support their team, and the good name and reputation of Rovers and their supporters was called into question.

Let’s be clear about this; any supporter who causes problems, home or away, is not wanted by this football club and will be banned from attending any games if it is proven that they have been responsible for any threatening behaviour towards opposition supporters or players.

We, as a club, are responsible for the behaviour of our supporters both home and away, a point which many fans are unaware.

On this occasion we have received a strong warning from the FA, but disciplinary action is likely to be taken against us should there be any further reports of misconduct by Bristol Rovers supporters.

Our safety officer spent many hours in discussions with club officials at Rovers and Braintree and considered video evidence of the incident before preparing a statement for the FA.

We ask all supporters to remain vigilant and to report any misconduct to stewards.
