ROVERS YOUTH DRAW WITH SAINTS

25 April 2015

Bristol Rovers 1-1 Southampton

Wed 22nd April 2015

Although our U-18 side have completed their games programme, they continue to train and Youth Team Manager Alan Walsh is arranging friendly fixtures to keep them ticking over.

This game, against a Southampton Development group known as Southampton Second Chance, took place at Bath University.

“It proved to be a good contest, and a competitive game,” said Alan, and “both sides wanted to win. The conditions weren’t ideal, as it was hot and the pitch was very hard and the ball quite lively but the game turned out to be a good test for us.

“It was a very close contest until 75 minutes, when we scored following a good piece of play down the left. Tom Fry got into the box and ran on to a good through ball before volleying a shot past the Southampton keeper.

“At that stage I thought we would go on to win the game, as there hadn’t been too many scoring opportunities for either side and neither goalkeeper had really been tested.

“However a lapse of concentration five minutes from time saw us lose our shape a little and one of the Southampton players equalised with a shot from the edge of the box.

“It was a disappointing end to the game, but it was a good workout and kept the lads ticking over.
