ROVERS ACADEMY & CHILDREN'S HOSPICE SOUTH WEST

26 April 2016

Bristol Rovers Academy are privileged to be able to offer their support to Children’s Hospice South West and are hoping to raise over £2,000 over the summer through sponsorship for the Bristol Rainbow Run on 18th June.

The Academy will be encouraging players and families to sign up for the 5km run over the Bristol Downs with each player pledging the entry fee and committing to raise sponsorship.

Academy staff, players and families will complete the run together and hope to both raise both funds and awareness for the Hospice.  It is also a valuable experience for our boys to develop their wider character and recognise the opportunities they have to help others.

Academy manager Jonathan Henderson and Lead Foundation Phase Coach Paul Hughes have already visited the Hospices’ Charlton Farm site to discuss our link where they presented a signed shirt to Olly Slym from the Hospice.

First Team player Lee Brown and Head of Education Adam Tutton have also volunteered to be ambassadors for the charity along with Paul Hughes.

Speaking of the newly established partnership, Paul said; “It’s a real privilege to be able to help Children's Hospice South West and it will be brilliant to see our boys become  involved in helping a very prestigious charity, beginning with the Rainbow Run in June.

“We place a real emphasis on developing our boys as people, as well as footballers, through a wide range of strategies and I think helping them focus on the opportunity they have to help others is important.  We want to produce excellent footballers for Bristol Rovers with the character and values associated with our great family club.”

Olly Slym, on behalf of Children’s Hospice South West, said; “Forming a partnership with Bristol Rovers FC has been, and will be, fantastic and I would like to thank Paul Hughes for being the driving force behind this.

"I would also like to extend my thanks Lee Brown and Adam Tutton for becoming Partnership Ambassadors along with Paul. We have so much planned for the coming year, starting with the wonderful Rainbow Run, Hospice Visits, and a few surprises along the way.

“I would like to say thank you for helping us make the most of short and precious lives in the south west.”
