ROGVI SIGNS

1 August 2012

Defender puts pen to paper

Rogvi Baldvinsson has today signed a two year deal with Bristol Rovers subject to medical and international clearance.

Last week Bristol Rovers agreed terms with Ålgård FK to bring the central defender to the club for an undisclosed fee.

Rogvi, who has lived in Norway all his life, said: “It has always been an ambition to play in England, and this is a dream come true.

“English football is very big in Norway, not just the Premier League, but the whole Football League.

“I have watched football all my life, I fell in love with English football, and now I have fallen in love with Bristol Rovers.

“I have six full caps, and we have a game against Germany coming up in September, which will be a challenge.

“I have played about 150 games for my old club and got a couple of goals, so I hope I can get a couple here as well.”

The 22-year-old is a Faroese international footballer, who made his international debut in 2011.

He has made 120 appearances for Norwegian side Ålgård FK, scoring 16 goals.

Manager Mark McGhee said: “Rogvi is a player I have been aware of for a while and comes highly recommended to me.

“He is an international and has played against some quality opposition. He has games against Germany and Sweden coming up so that will be a test for him.

“He is a very ambitious player and we have to make sure that we are not just a stepping stone for him and that we can make progress together.”

Chairman Nick Higgs said: “We continue to cast our net further with Mark’s extensive contacts.

“We are delighted that this exciting young player has joined the club.”
