Defender says thanks to the fans

Michael Smith had a message of thanks for the Bristol Rovers fans after making the move to join Peterborough United today.

Smudge spoke of how much he enjoyed his time at the Memorial Stadium, and how fantastic the fans have been throughout his time at the club.

He said: "I would like to thank everyone involved with Bristol Rovers, including the fans, staff and the players I have played with over the last three years.

"Rovers gave me my first break in professional football, and I will be forever grateful for that.

"The fans have been fantastic to me, the messages I have received today have been really heartwarming, and I would like to thank everyone for that.

"My fiancée is a Rovers fan, and I love Bristol, so I will be back to watch Rovers whenever I can."

Michael joined Bristol Rovers in the summer of 2011 and made his Rovers league debut on the opening day of the 2011/12 season.

He scored his first senior goal for the club in a 2012/13 Capital One cup tie, against Ipswich, at Portman Road.
Everyone at Bristol Rovers would like to wish Michael every success for the future.
