FABIAN'S DEAL

Midfielder on new contract and more

Midfielder Fabian Broghammer revealed yesterday that he has put pen to paper on a one year deal with Rovers, with the option of a further year.

With the formalities almost complete, Rovers are now, according to manager Mark McGhee, awaiting international clearance for the 22 year old.

Broghammer told us a little about his playing background following yesterday's game against Coventry City at the Memorial Stadium.

"I used to play for Eintracht Frankfurt and TSG 1899 Hoffenheim and after that went to VFB Stuttgart in Germany's third league before signing for my hometown team SV Darmsadt 98 who also play in the third league.

"The move to Bristol came about because the gaffer has a friend in Germany from his time with Hamburg. I was looking for a club, and the opportunity of a trial came about and it's worked out well.

"I've always dreamt a little bit about playing in England, but I never thought it would happen. Then my agent called to ask if I would like to play over here and I'm really glad I came."

He's had to endure a tough pre season programme.

"When I first came here I thought it would be quite hard and it was, but it was what was needed and I think now we are all well prepared for the season.

"On a personal level, I feel fit and I think that after a couple of matches that my fitness will improve still further."

Of the game against Coventry, he said; "I think we did very well, especially in the second half. The problems really came in the first half when they tried stop us playing, and we struggled a little bit. However I think we were very competitive and did a good job."

He's not too bothered if he plays on the left or right of midfield.

"I have played, primarily on the left, though last season I played on the right. I honestly don't mind where I play. My left foot is stronger than my right, though, and I would class myself more out and out winger rather than as a play maker. My job is to be quick down the line and get crosses into the box, and I think I have a goal or two in me as well."
