The Manager takes a look at Alfreton
As Bristol Rovers gear up for their final game of the regular season manager Darrell Clarke took some time to reflect how far the team has come in the past twelve months."It's been a fantastic journey, when you look back at the first five games and getting only five points to see the position we're in now to potentially win the title on the last day shows that the lads have done me proud and put some pride back into the shirt but now we need to finish it off.
"If you look at what happened here on the last day of last season there has been a massive turn around for the football club after it hit rock bottom with the relegation.
"It has taken a lot of effort from myself, the players and most importantly the supporters to pick it back up so that it can be competitive again.
"With new players coming into the side it took a little bit of time to adjust but then they kicked on. We're on a 19 game undefeated record away from home which is a club record and regardless of what league we are in that is a fantastic achievement.
"We are disappointed we haven't turned more of those draws into wins but other than that, the lads have given me everything this season.
On a personal note, how last season ended hit Darrell hard as he explains he had "the worst summer of my life" after Rovers relegation to the conference.
"It has been a tough 12 months for myself and especially the supporters because we have gone through a lot but my thanks goes to the supporters for giving me the opportunity to turn the club around and get it going in the right direct again.
"It has been difficult, but any club would find that when they drop down a division with all the cuts that were made but we are here with one game to go with a chance of winning the title at the Memorial Stadium.
"I did say publicly that I felt I could get us in the top five and I always believed that we the club have done better than the top five this season.
Tomorrow's fixture with Alfreton Town has been announced as a sell out with over 11,000 Gasheads expected at the Mem and Darrell has branded their support as "something else".
"Their support at games this season has been fantastic, both home and away.
"The passion that they show is just incredible and I've said all along the supporters of this football club all deserve medals and that little bit of luck and all the players and the staff want to get promoted for the supporters.
