Darrell Praises Squad Character

16 September 2014

Darrell Clarke couldn't speak highly enough of the character displayed by his squad in this evening's win over Nuneaton Town.

Having secured the clubs first away win of the season at Lincoln on Saturday, Nuneaton were in town to try and break Rovers unbeaten streak at home.

Tom Parkes opened the scoring after just 90 seconds before Matty Taylor and Jake Gosling added their first goals for the club either side of a Gareth Dean header for the visitors.

However, it was the character of his squad that pleased Darrell most.

The manager said "The effort of the lads was key tonight, their ability to bounce back and score again after conceding such a sloppy at the other end shows their character and willingness to win matches."

Darrell also had a great deal of praise for several individuals within the squad.

"Dave Martin's delivery was superb tonight, his corners are always right on the money which allows players to get up and attack them.

"Work rate is something that you get with Matty, he is willing to do that running for the team so it's good to see him get off the mark.

"Stuart (Sinclair) and Lee (Mansell) offer a great deal of energy in the middle and that's what you need at this level."

The Rovers boss was also very complementary about the support again at the Memorial Stadium.

"The supporters were fantastic yet again, the noise that they make it is like having another man out there!

"When you are managing a club the size of Bristol Rovers every game is a big game and Saturday will be no difference and that crowd will be there again and we need them right behind us."
