DARRELL ON THE LEAD UP TO THE SEASON

28 July 2014

Monday press call with the manager

Darrell Clarke has said that in an ideal world, he would like to bring in one or two new players towards the end of the week.

He has been pleased with the recruitment to date, and the way pre-season has gone so far.

The manager also confirmed that Romuald Boco will not be offered a deal with the club.

He said: “The new boys have fitted in really well. We have been a little bit careful of how many games we have played because of the injuries we have had and the size of the squad, but I have been really pleased with the work ethic.

“Boco wont be offered a deal. He is an experienced lad, but I thought he was a little bit too similar to what we already have at the club.

“I am looking to add one or two more at the back end of this week if possible.

“Jamie Turley is seeing a physio today, so we will see where that goes.

“We will try and get our club doctor to have a look at him this week, and then I will make a decision on whether I will offer personal terms to him.”

Darrell is hopeful that Ollie Clarke could be in contention to play against Coventry on Friday, after missing Saturday’s game against Gloucester.

He said: “We will see how Ollie Clarke is this week. He has a slight thigh strain, and sometimes they can develop into a more serious thigh strain, but I am very optimistic that he will be fine for the start of the season.

“I would like to think he would be in contention for Friday’s game.”

Darrell also advised against reading too much into his starting line up on Friday.

He said: “There are no guarantees who will be starting on August 9th, no matter what team plays on Friday.

“They are getting the minutes and are working hard, but I wouldn’t read too much into what team I play or what formation I play on Friday, as I will change it if I want to on the Saturday.”
