DANIEL LEADBITTER SIGNS A NEW DEAL

17 June 2015

Preparations for life in League Two took a further step forward today as Daniel Leadbitter has signed a new contract with the club.

Leadbitter signed for the club ahead of the 2014/15 Vanarama Conference campaign and has now put pen to paper allowing Rovers to secure his services ahead of the new League Two season.

The 23 year old Geordie graduated through the ranks at Newcastle United, for whom he signed a pro contract in 2007.

Although he made a number of reserve team appearances for the Magpies he was unable to break into the first team and was released in June 2011.

That same month he moved to the other end of the country when he signed for Torquay United  and he made his debut for the Gulls in a 0-1 defeat against Bradford City, at Valley Parade, in October 2011.

There were 15 appearances in his one season at Plainmoor and in August 2013 he signed for Hereford United, for whom he made 40 appearances.

Leadbitter's Rovers career has been a bit stop start to date. Having started the clubs first three league fixtures of the season Daniel found himself in and out of the team until late January where he had an extended run of games in Darrell Clarke's side.

A particular season highlight for Leadbitter was netting his first senior goal away at Lincoln City in a 2-3 win for the Gas.

On completion of his contract extension, Rovers boss Darrell Clarke had nothing but praise for the young full back.

"Daniel is a terrific player who at times this season had to wait for his chance but I feel he grabbed his chance with both hands.

"I think he developed a lot as the season went on and went from strength to strength and we are hoping that will continue into the Football League."
