CLUB PAY TRIBUTE TO ANDY KING

27 May 2015

Football fans and, more specifically, Everton supporters were shocked to learn of the death today of former Blues favourite Andy King.

The ex Everton midfielder, who scored 68 goals in two separate spells at Goodison Park, died from a heart attack aged just 58.

Bristol Rovers manager Darrell Clarke knew Andy very well and this afternoon paid tribute to his former boss, saying; "I knew Andy really well as he was my manager at Mansfield where he gave me my first professional contract as a player.

"He was a very special man and I'll never forget that he was one of the first people to ring me up after we were relegated last season to offer words of encouragement. That, for me, typifies the man he was.

"I am deeply shocked at the news of his passing and my thoughts right now are with his family and friends."

Rovers supporters will no doubt remember Andy from his time in charge at Swindon Town and as assistant to Aidy Boothroyd at Northampton Town.

Bristol Rovers Football Club also send their condolences to all who were close to him.
