Nick on the poor start to the season
I know you are all hurting following last weekend’s result, and there is nothing I can say that will make that better.This is not the start that any of us were hoping for, but we have to remember that it is a long season, and nothing is won or lost within the opening few games.
It is hugely disappointing that we find ourselves in this situation, and a lot of hard work needs to take place to make sure we start turning things around straight away.
The team seems to be lacking confidence at the moment, and that is probably partly a hangover from relegation last season.
We need to get behind the team at this difficult time, because once we get a couple of wins under our belt, the confidence will grow and we will start to see the sort of performances we have been expecting from the team of players Darrell has assembled.
We cannot take anything for granted in this league, and we know every game is going to be a challenge.
Lack of quality in front of goal has clearly been a problem during the opening three games, as we have netted just once in 270 minutes of football. We came close to signing a number of strikers last week, but for different reasons, they did not come off.
The Board continue to support Darrell as he attempts to bring in a new target man, and potentially another player as well, and we hope we can see some new faces very soon.
I was very sad to hear this week of the resignation of Geoff Dunford. It came as a great surprise, but we all understand that Geoff made the decision for personal reasons.
Geoff has been a fantastic servant to this club, and he and his family have played an invaluable role at Bristol Rovers for over 30 years. He has played an active role on the Board, and his experience will be sorely missed.
We wish him all the best for the future, and hope that his relationship with Bristol Rovers will continue in some form.
It was fantastic to see an opening day crowd of over 7,000 people here at the Mem, but we realise that things are going to have to change if we expect to get anywhere near those numbers again this season.
Our fan base is absolutely fantastic, but we have to give you something to feel positive about, and a reason to turn out in your numbers. We have to start picking up points and winning games, and Saturday is the perfect time to start.
