BOLGER'S BACK

Central defender returns on loan for a third time

Rovers have completed the loan signing of Leicester City defender Cian Bolger, who returns to the Memorial Stadium for a third time.

His loan spell runs until 1st January 2013.

Rovers' Chairman Nick Higgs said of the club's new signing; "We are delighted to welcome Cian back to the club.

"His arrival will give us added competition for places in defence and we hope he enjoys a successful time with us until January, when his position will be reviewed.

Manager Mark McGhee said; "Back in April and May, when we were planning for this season, we had three main transfer targets and they were Cian Bolger, Tom Parkes and David Clarkson.

"It's taken until today, transfer deadline day, to get all three of those players on board, but we have also signed Garry Kenneth, Seanan Clucas, Ollie Norburn and Fabian Broghammer as well as Matt Lund, who is back with us on loan.

"As a manager, I am delighted with the backing I have received, from the Chairman and Toni Watola, to enable me to bring those players to the club and now it's up to the players to deliver.

"I have every faith in them and feel that we now have a good group, with strength in depth, not to mention competition for places.

"Cian's arrival also gives us a flexibility in that it will enable us to play different systems. We have four central defenders, all of whom are comfortable with whatever system we choose to go with, and now we have cover for places at the back.

"It really is good to have Cian back with us and he will go straight into the squad for tomorrow's game against Morecambe."

Cian first arrived at the club  joined the club on 7th January 2011, having been Leicester's Academy player of the Year two years earlier.

A regular in the youth team and the reserves with his parent club, Cian is a Republic of Ireland U-19 international.

He was on the bench for our game against Hartlepool United the day after he arrived at the club and made his Rovers debut when going on as a second half substitute in the 6-1 defeat at Walsall on 29th January 2011.

His initial loan deal was extended and he went on to appear in six league games before returning to the Walkers Stadium.

He arrived at the Memorial Stadium for a further loan spell at the beginning of July 2012 and a further extension to his loan deal saw him remain at the club for the whole of last season.

Cian scored his first goal for the club in the 3-2 win at Morecambe in September 2011.

To date Cian has scored twice in 44 league appearances for Rovers and he has also made three appearances in cup competitions for the club.

His return means that he will link up again with former Leicester team mate and fellow central defender Tom Parkes.

Tom was also here on loan last season and has since moved to the Memorial Stadium on a permanent basis.
