ANGELO BALANTA JOINS ROVERS

8 September 2014

Winger signs until the end of the season

Bristol Rovers have today signed free agent Angelo Balanta subject to medical.

The 24-year-old winger has signed a deal until the end of the season.

Manager Darrell Clarke said: “I am really pleased to bring Angelo to the club, he is a talented player with a good pedigree.

“He can play as a left winger or a striker, and will offer us some creativity in the final third.

“He is a player who can unlock defences and help us create the goals we have been lacking.

Born in Colombia, Balanta moved to England and progressed through the QPR youth system, before breaking into the first team in 2007.

He made his first team debut as a substitute in December 2007, and his first start for the club later the same month.

In November 2008, Balanta moved on loan to League Two side Wycombe Wanderers for three months.

In June 2010 he moved on loan MK Dons for the entire season, before going back for a further two spells with them.

After returning to QPR he moved to Yeovil on loan in March 2013, where he saw out the rest of the 2012/13 season.

In July 2014 Balanta was released by QPR after seven years with the club.

Chairman Nick Higgs said: “I am delighted to welcome Angelo to the club, we have been chasing a player of his quality for some time.

“He can play as a left winger or a striker, so he gives us some new options, and we hope to see great things from him.”
