MARCUS: 'WE HAVE GOT TO APPROACH SUNDAY'S GAME WITH THE RIGHT MENTALITY'

2 December 2016

Rovers entertain National League highflyers, Barrow A.F.C, at the Mem this Sunday in the Emirates FA Cup.

Speaking to the press previewing Sunday's tie, Assistant Manager, Marcus Stewart detailed the benefits of having no midweek game in the schedule for the past week.

"We have had quite a heavy workload over the past three to four weeks, so it has been important that we get the balance of rest and work right and I think we have managed to strike a good balance this past week."

"We missed out on a reserve fixture on Tuesday, but we have another reserve match scheduled for next Tuesday, so that will allow us to give minutes to those players that haven't had game time recently."

"It is all about finding the right balance at this stage of the season because everyone needs to be fit for the workload that is coming up over the next four to five weeks."

"Sometimes it isn't just about doing the hard work on the training pitch, it's also about talking and communicating on the pitch and understanding what needs to be done to get things right again."

Focusing on the Emirates FA Cup, Stewart highlighted that Barrow will over a physical test at the Mem on Sunday with the Rovers squad needing to approach the game with the right mentality.

"We know what Barrow are all about and we are expecting a tough physical game."

"The pressure is on us, we are playing at home against a non-league side who are a decent outfit, who have just broken a club record for the number of games that they have gone unbeaten, so we know that it is going to be a tough game."

"It wasn't too long ago that we were playing at National League level and we know how tough it is at that level, with every team we went up against in the league treating the games against us like a cup final when we played at their ground or when they visited the Mem."

"We have got to approach this game with the right mentality to get a good result."

"I think we are due to have a nice cup run. This is my fifth season here and we are yet to have a good run in this competition, so it would be nice to get ourselves into the next round and to see where that takes us."
