DARRELL CLARKE: ‘THE PLAYERS HAVE SET STANDARDS NOW AND WE WANT TO GO HIGHER’

3 November 2016

Rovers turn their attention to the Emirates FA Cup this weekend, with a trip to SkyBet League Two side Crawley Town.

Manager Darrell Clarke conveyed that the squad will prepare in the usual fashion for the tie at the Checkatrade Stadium, which is followed quickly by a Checkatrade Trophy fixture at Fratton Park against Portsmouth on Tuesday evening.

"The same preparation and the same respect goes into every game we play," said the Manager.

"We have got a lot of respect for Crawley and I think that Dermot Drummy has done a good job after joining them at a difficult time and we are expecting a tough battle on Saturday."

"I know that our FA Cup record hasn't been fantastic since I have been at the club, but we will give it a right good go on Saturday and we won't prepare any differently and we will travel to Crawley looking to get a positive result that is for sure."

"We want to do well and progress in both competitions. They are both tough games, but we are in a fantastic position in the league and we enjoying winning football matches here and that is what we will work hard to continue to do."

Saturday's game against Crawley follows Tuesday's 2-1 victory against Fleetwood Town at the Mem, a performance which pleased Manager Darrell Clarke, who believes the togetherness of the squad is a factor in Rovers good run of form.

"I think you have to analyse the performance as a whole.”

“Apart from the MK Dons game, where we were fortunate to get a point, in all the other league games, I think that we have been the better side."

"The players have set standards now and we want to go higher than those standards and that is what we want to focus on now going forward."

"Players that are not involved at the present need to keep on top of training so when that opportunity comes, they are able to take it."

"We have a mindset of working as a squad and making sure that every player is ready to take opportunities when they come, so that they can produce the goods on the pitch."
