MATT TAYLOR SIGNS FOR BRISTOL ROVERS

16 June 2014

Second signing of the summer

Bristol Rovers have today further bolstered their front line by bringing in striker Matt Taylor.

The 24-year-old has agreed terms to join Rovers when his contract runs out at Forest Green at the end of the month.

The striker, who has been at Forest Green for the last three seasons, turned down interest from Oxford, Mansfield, Chester and Kidderminster to come to the Memorial Stadium.

Manager Darrell Clarke said: “Matty is a striker that plays off the shoulder and he has a proven goalscoring record in Non League Football. He is an intelligent footballer.

“I went to watch him last season and he stood out, and I have been chasing him for a few weeks.

“There have been a lot of clubs after him, but he chose us for the right reasons and he ticked the right boxes for me.

Matt began his career in the youth team at Oxford before joining Southern League South & West Division side North Leigh. Whilst there he scored over 80 goals in two seasons.

He joined Forest Green in September 2011, after spending a period on trial at Cheltenham Town.

Matt is a current member of the England C squad, and scored three goals in two games for his country against Hungary and Sparta Prague B last month.

Chairman Nick Higgs said: “We are delighted to welcome Matt to Bristol Rovers.

“Darrell has started to rebuild his squad for next season, and Matt is another important addition to the side.”

Interviews with Matt and Darrell Clarke will be available on Gas Player and You Tube later today.
